So I checked this place out last night. Have to say I was very dissapointed. I looked all over the place and there was no opium to be found whatsoever!

LULZ. Is this different to Opium on Camden St then or what's the story?

Same place Paddy. I'm going to write to the management to let them know they're misleading their punters!

Get onto the trade  descriptions folk Mike

Seemed to be a lot of problems at the door for the leftfield dj set. Few people I know with ticket were turned away for no discernible reason.

I don't get the whole 'Spice Emporium' written on the building but it's a Thai food menu buzz they've got going on.

Aesthetically pleasing venue though. Love the round bar downstairs. Not been upstairs yet.

How much have they changed the upstairs? Saw Chromatics in there last year, was fantastic and wondered why they didn't use that room more for (good) bands. The big light rig they had in there worked quite well for Chromatics.

Opium and Opium Rooms are 2 different venues. The Opium Rooms, is essentially the Village. They've changed the inside. It looks good as a venue,  it's absolutely ENORMOUS, and the sound was incredible, some of the best I've experienced in Dublin. Was there for Leftfield the other week, particulary terribly crowd. Reminded me of why I stay away from conventional and generic clubs. Utterly depressing. Security were shite, the door set up was shite, and most of the people were shite.
Opium is the restaurant/bar, on Camden St. They sometimes use upstairs for gigs in there.

The entrance to the Opium Rooms is round the back of Whelans, in Pissy Lane.

Having to go around the back is really poor, considering there's no sign or anything. Would be a nightmare if you weren't from Dublin and had been there before.

Route 94 there this weekend.... Wasn't he just in the Pepper? Load of hoop anyway.

well thats good to hear bout the sound. Was in there for Torn Hawk a few months back, he was  good but the sound was sorely lacking for such a big space.

Aye for sure. Nexo sound was piss. Tr-One where great after. That warehouse/shed space is used as a second room on Saturdays now, and has new sound install.

good there's a new venue addition for the city all the same. it needs a few more quality options to be fair.
