A Brief Introduction to...Christian Prommer

**He is…**Munich based drummer/DJ/producer who launched a cutting edge new music project in 2007 called Drumlessons. Gathering around him a team of accomplished jazz musicians, he re-recorded 10 of his favourite dance tracks as jazz re-interpretations - the results of which you’ll hear at the Picnic if you haven’t already bought the album. Aside from that he produces some pretty damn nice house music, and is as fine a DJ as he is a musician. Do NOT miss this guy, it’s gonna be something special! **His music is…**jazz meets electronic music's magnum opei (can you make that a plural?!) **In his own words…** **What’s been going on for Christian Prommer this year?** A lot of great things. I’m touring with my band, Christian Prommer's Drumlesson almost every weekend. We’ve been to Japan, played at the North Sea Jazz Festival, at The Big Chill Festival, The BBC WorldWide Award show and many other venues all over Europe. Playing live with the band is a great experience for me. I also DJ a lot all over the place. I played in Dublin not so long ago. Very nice people there. Besides that, I’m producing a lot of music in my studio. Just finished the new DJ Hell album for Gigolo Records and a record with multi-instrumentalist Wigald Boning for Compost Records. I did remixes for labels like Compost, Verve USA, Fourtwenty Records, NRK, Raw Fusion, Buzzin Fly as well as working on my own house tunes that are released on Sonar Kollektiv. My Drumlesson Band played on a CD I produced for The Dining Rooms out of Milano, to be released later this year. Most exciting for me: I’ve just started to write and record new material for my next CD with the band. Last week I had the afrobeat master drummer Tony Allen in the studio to play some amazing drum trax. **If you were writing your own review what would you say about yourself?** Smart, talented, incredibly good looking, amazing, too good to be true, not as young as he looks......... **Tell us a bit about your best gig to date and why was it the best?** I really liked the last show we did. It was at the 10 Days Off Festival in Ghent. A techno festival. Great crowd, good sound. The band played great. But the most important thing for me is that the vibe that I feel is transported into the audience and back. At the end of the day that is what is the great thing about live shows. **If you could get any three musicians/producers in the studio with you, who would they be and why?** 1. Steve Gadd - my drum hero from day one. Amazing musician and drummer. 2. Carl Craig- Detroit techno master, seems to never repeat himself. 3. Ahmad Jamal - Piano master since the 60s. Grooves like no one else. Every line he plays is a hook. **What piece of new fangled technology has really made a difference to your job in the last few years?** First of all the invention of the drums a million years back. I could not live with out them. Second: my Apple MacBook pro. A great piece of gear. It already fell of a stage (2.5 m high) during a show, and is still working. Great look on everybody’s face when it happened btw! I use it together with Ableton Live and NI´s Audio Kontrol. **What can we look forward to from Christian Prommer at the Electric Picnic?!** A great, energetic live show with a lot of rhythm. There will be three drummers on stage! I am very honoured to have a collective of great, inspiring musicians on stage with me. To play with them is a lesson for me every time. I look forward to every show. We’ll play the tunes from our CD "Drumlesson Vol.1" that came out earlier this year as well as some new tracks. And of course we’ll play our version of "Strings of Life". **What (if anything) have you heard about the good old Irish crowd?!** I’ve been to Ireland twice and can't wait to come back. Great place, with so many nice party people. **Not many people know that I…**am the one American not supporting the current president. **Christian’s thought for the day is…** will it work out? **Christian’s word of the day is…**it will work out! **Christian’s idea of a good night out is…** Great people and good music You can check out a great interview and snippet from Drumlessons live here
