Anti Racist Rave
"100,000 people turn out to support Love Music Hate Racism in London"
The “Love Music Hate Racism” Carnival was held last Sunday (April 27th) in London’s Victoria Park.
The free event played host to acts such as “The Good the Bad and the Queen, Hard-Fi, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Dj Hype and Dj Luck and Mc Neat.
Over 100,000 people turned up to show their support for the cause which aims to highlight any sort of racism worldwide. “Our music is living testimony to the fact that cultures can and do mix. It unites us and gives us strength, and offers a vibrant celebration of our multicultural and multiracial society. Racism seeks only to divide and weaken us”.
In the lead up to local elections in the capital, organisers believe the event will have an affect on turnout, "Not one artist shied away from making anti-fascist and anti-racist statements from the stage. Anti racism chants were started by artists who were enthusiastically joined by the crowd, showing that the carnival yesterday was every bit as political as the '78 Rock Against Racism concert it was commemorating."
The event follows the “Rock Against Racism” organised by political activists more than 30 years ago, in reaction to rising xenophobia and racism fuelled by Nazi organisations like the National Front.
