With the music industry in absolute turmoil, illegal downloading at its highest and bands making it big on their own merit, it seems record labels have finally turned to God.

Sony BMG has just signed three Irish Roman Catholic priests for a reported £1 million record contract.

Father Eugene O Hagen, his brother Martin and their old school mate David Delargy sealed the deal on the steps of Westminster Cathedral in London yesterday.

The musical trio known simply as “The Priests” vowed to give all the money they earned from their music to charity. Their contract also stipulates that they are allowed to be exempt from promotional duties to deal with parish work such as presiding over weddings and funerals.

Fr Martin explains, “Our work means a great deal to us. We are priests first and foremost. Our work will be the heart of our plans”.

Some of the group’s influences include classical music quartet “Il Divo” and cite jazz and relaxing music as what they listen to in their downtime.

Nick Raphael, a director for Epic Records claims, “Their voices are incredible, I think we’ve found three pop stars”.

The Priests debut single is due for release in November and Sony can confirm that the single will not be a remake of Father Ted’s “My Lovely Horse”.
