Long sets

Anyone else think that if an international DJ is over and they are
gettin payed a load of cash they should be playing long sets? At
least 3hours..You would not believe the amount that say " no no,
I wanna play only 2hours"...If you are on the amount of money that
we all know they earn they should be capable of a long set....
i might make it compulsory with our bookings..anyone else agree
with this? wink

name and shame please lol

Out of interest, how much does your average DJ get paid in Ireland? Not Sasha, but say someone like....I dunno.....Sebo K.

I don't think a DJ deserves the title of an "international" DJ unless he/she can play a long set ("long" being at least three hours). Obviously some vary in the time, I don't think a six hour Dave Clarke set would be as interesting as a six hour Mr. Scruff DJ set, but two hours is a joke in my view. I remember reading an interview with Deep Dish who said they really hated "only" playing two hours as they had very little time to generate an atmosphere, I think insisting on two hours says something about the callibre of DJ (and how much they really enjoy their work). I also thought the Electric Picnic system of giving international DJ's one hour was even more ridiculous, it's a long way to travel to play records for one hour in Ireland, but I guess it's hard to accomodate everyone on the bill.

I always just assumed it was our ridiculous licensing laws that meant we only got 2 hour sets.

thats ridiculous that they're refusing to play longer than 2 hours.

Long sets are the way forward, myself and Mike Black played for 5 1/2 hours in belfast the other week and it was great fun!

Not for the people listening, Eoin.*

*Sorry Mike, you're just collateral damage.

I think Mr. Scruffs set at the Button Factory was a benchmark, i only got in there for the last 2 hours but felt he was very comfortable and was getting the most out of him.

I think Mr. Scruff is a benchmark for most DJ's full stop. He plays all styles, and puts them together brilliantly. He can also play really long sets, which is the sign of a truly great DJ imo. Most guest DJs I've heard recently, to be fair, have usually played for at least three hours, with the exception of Henrik Schwarz, which was a live set rather than a DJ set, so that's understandable. Prins Thomas played four hours in the Button Factory recently and was completely ace (as usual), another brilliant jock. I think any DJ who's insisting on "only" playing two hours Ronayne isn't worth booking, if anything they should be disappointed if that's all they were getting. And if they insist on playing two hours, and you really want to book them, make sure you ask him/her for a recession discount, the shorter the set the smaller the cheque, you know it makes sense Rodders...
