Stereotonic Present: SIMBAD, ZED BIAS & DJ MARKY

Of late it's not too often we have guests down at Stereotonic Fridays, a deliberate decision on our part to build up the night based on our ressies & some local DJs rocking it out every week. To give ourselves a little treat this month So to give ourselves a little treat this month we’re pulling out a triple header with 2 of house music’s very much up & coming producers Simbad & Zeb Bias, and Brazilian DnB superstar DJ Marky...

In the club, Raw Fusion’s newest star SIMBAD will be spinning a dancefloor mix of 4 to the floor house beats fused with an exciting range of funk & soul, spacey disco, jazzy hip-hop & Jamiacan dancehall. Simbad is one of our favourite producer/DJs in the house scene at the moment and creating some very exciting new sounds having collaborated & remixed with a wide range of artists including Tony Allen, Roy Ayers, Bugz in the Attic & Marque Gilmore. His sophomore album “Supersonic Revelation” was released on Raw Fusion late last year with tracks being picked up by the likes of Giles Peterson & Laurent Garnier. Simbad has also completed a remix for BDI on our very own Scribble Record label :)

Ex-UK garage & dub maestro ZED BIAS gets busy in the bar cutting up nu-sounds, broken beats & dubby grooves fresh from his very popular “Experiments with Biasonics” album released earlier this year. Scribble Record’s honcho Stee Downes joins him on support.

Over in the “Stereo-clectic” room we get to stretch Stereotonic’s music policy and show the full range of sounds we like to associate with the club from house to soul/funk/hip-hop to DnB & world sounds. Brazilian Drum & Bass superstar DJ MARKY is the main attraction tonight and it’s been a long time since his last Dublin club show (although he did rock both the Electric Picnic Festival last summer & Garden Party in ’06). We also join forces with 2 of the city’s top dnb collectives Reach & OneSevenFour with their residents on support for Marky. Widely known as a phenomenal mixer & entertainer, DJ Marky was one of the first artists in Brazil to push to UK sounds of jungle & drum & bass, and helped raised the profile of fellow Brazilian DJs like Patife & Koloral, and regularly attracted crowds of up to 5000 for his residency at Sao Paolo’s famous TOCO club. His debut album the Brazilian Job received the highest sales in the drum n bass scene for it’s time, with his most famous track, a remix of Carolina Carol Bela, by Jorge Bem Jor, entitled LK, reaching #15 in the UK charts (a unique position that has never been reached before by any Brazilian artist in the English Charts). Marky also has a flare for the more soulful dnb sounds heavily influenced by rare groove, jazz & classic soul/funk of the 70s & 80s, and has in fact hosted nights, including a monthly at the End in London (entitled DJ Marky & Friends) with top acts playing a range of these sounds as well as drum & bass.

Keep an eye out too for his little party piece of picking up his turntable in mid-scratch and flipping it upside down, still cutting &
