Another double header spectacular at POGO this week this time on a lil bit more of an underground vibe.
In POGO Club Hamburg’s Dial Records (home to Pantha Du Prince and Efdemin) founder Lawrence plays a live set under this Sten guise. On the production circuit since 2000 Lawrence has developed a strong recognition for his deep, dark, sometimes melancholic & often complex techno sound, and uses his Sten alter-ego for his live shows which focus on his darker more dancefloor driven beats. Lawrence has 4 albums under his belt “Lawrence” (2000), “The Absence of Blight” (2003), “The Night Will Last Forever” (2005) under Lawrence, and “Leaving the Frantic” (2004) under Sten, with tracks having being snatched up for compilations by the likes of Sven Vath, Andre Galluzzi, Tobias Thomas & Josh Wink. Furthermore Lawrence has also had releases on Kompakt & Ghostly International and in 2006 he opened his own record store Smallville in Hamburg following with a new label of the same name last year.
Over in POGO Live we’ve another debut Irish appearance from up & coming indie-ravers (and greatly titled band) We Smoke Fags. Hailing from London the trio tag their style as “electro-skunk-rock” and the “Future Sound of London”! They pinpoint quite a wide range of artist influences from the likes of Sonic Youth, Blur, The Specials, to Norman Cook, Ladytron, ESG and to various sub-culture scenes such as the post-punk era 1978-’82, 80s skateboarding and various other random bits n bobs which you can check out on their myspace! They’re presently on a daily UK tour so hopefully they’ll have plenty of energy by the time they reach us over here. On an interesting side note the band have been getting a lot of abuse from US gay rights activists, for their misinterpreted title in US slang!
Supporting WSF on the night will be Antics DJ Mark Cummins.
POGO Pub will be locked down by Nic James & Shortie with their cutting edge mash-up of the latest party styles B-more and more.
